The Ports & Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC) was developed in response to the need for the safe and efficient running of ports. The first edition of the PMSC was released in 2000 and has continued to evolve, with the most recent version published in 2025.

A thorough understanding of the Code allows marine managers and duty holders to structure and manage their operations in-line with industry best practice and national standards.

Effective implementation and adherence to the Code provides owners and operators of ports, harbours, terminals, marinas and other marine facilities with a uniform set of principles designed to be applied proportionately.
